PETA (The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is the largest non-profit organization fighting for animal rights in the world. They have more than 6.5 million members and the support of notable celebrities.

The body focuses on the four major areas where animals face the most abuse: farms and factories, laboratories, the clothing industry and the entertainment industry.

PETA strives to eliminate the abuse of animals in many different ways. Some of their strategies include campaigns, public education, research and directly rescuing animals. You can find out more about what they do on their site as well as donate to the cause or volunteer.

What is a PETA certificate?

As part of their mission to spread awareness, PETA issues a certificate of the same name to individual companies whose products are proven to contain no animal ingredients and have not been tested on animals.

For PETA it’s all about visibility and supporting manufacturers that are ‘animal-friendly’. It is a certification based on the trust that companies will comply with the conditions set out by PETA.

Is my product PETA-certified?

If you are interested in finding out whether your product was tested on animals, the PETA database offers an extensive list of more than 3300 cruelty-free companies. Don’t be put off by its length, thanks to the easy search engine tool you can enter the exact name of the company you are interested in and check if it’s cruelty-free or not.
